Report on activites of Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU), College of Engineering, Thalassery from 01.01.2018 till date:

The college has a dedicated Career Guidance and Placement Unit (CGPU). The unit is entrusted with the responsibilities of guiding students for placement in credible organizations, conducting career guidance and placement-oriented training programs, conducting custom built training programmes in identified areas such as programming and acting as information Centre for students in job opportunities, higher studies, competitive examinations like GATE, GRE, CAT etc.

The major infrastructure facilities of the unit include well-furnished Interview cum mini conference room, a seminar hall with a capacity of 100 (shared with CS Dept.), air-conditioned conference room with a capacity of 20 (shared with College) and an excellent online testing centre with an ability to host more than 50 candidates in a single session (shared with CS Dept.)

The organization of the CGPU is as follows. The unit is headed by the Principal and the day to day activities of CGPU is carried out by the Training and Placement Officer (TPO), who is a senior faculty member of the college. One faculty from each department with student intake of 60 and two faculties from department with student intake 120 is assigned as Staff Placement Coordinators. Two students per batch of 60 students are selected as Student Placement Coordinators. The Staff Placement Coordinators and Student Placement Coordinators act as interface between departments and TPO. Weekly meeting of the Training and Placement Cell forms a platform for discussions, decisions related to training and placement activities.

The CGPU organizes several training programmes for the students. Several placement training programmes are organized by the CGPU. It includes training sessions on aptitude, technical and soft skills. Professional trainers are engaged for this task. It has got close association with major recruiters such as IBS, Quest etc. The CGPU acts as a hub for disseminating information on prospects for higher studies. It displays information on all competitive examinations on its notice board.

CAPE has formulated a unified syllabus for career/placement training that has to be covered in a step-by-step manner from the entry to exit of a student. In connection with this College provides mandatory two days compulsory free training in the first year, second year and third year students. This is followed by a three day free mandatory training program which ensures that the student is well equipped to face job interviews in the final year.
